As one of the nation's first corporations to establish a formal minority supplier diversity program over 39 years ago, we are proud of our history of leadership and progress. Since that time, we have purchased nearly $62 billion in goods and services from direct and indirect minority suppliers.

The foundation of General Motors Supplier Diversity program focuses on enhancing diverse supplier's capabilities by providing developmental tools. We demonstrate this through our mentorship program and annual recognition of exceptional performing minority-owned companies.

The success of GM's minority suppliers is evident each year when GM issues its Supplier of the Year awards. In 2006, 5 of the 89 recipients to receive top honors were diverse suppliers.

Also in 2006 GM continued to demonstrate its leadership commitment to minority supplier development by procuring more than $5 billion in goods and services from direct and indirect minority suppliers. Tier 1 spending accounted for $3 billion and Tier 2 spending totaled $2 billion in the United States.
