Mentor Program Elements

• Establish goals and measure the progress of each operational area
  
• Provide resources to focus on the improvement of Quality, Service, Technology and Price (standards by which all suppliers are measured)
  
• Identify and evaluate minority suppliers who demonstrate a strong potential for becoming a great GM supplier
  
• Identify opportunities for additional business in the complete value-added chain
  
• Require and review the supplier's 1-3 year business plan
  
• Identify and assign companies as mentees to the appropriate purchasing operational areas
  
• Promote networking opportunities
  
• Encourages networking and alliances between minority suppliers
  

Mentored Suppliers are developed to be "The Best of the Best" and provide GM with a competitive advantage. Mentorship is a joint commitment of GM and the mentored supplier leadership.

What is the role of the GM champion / mentor?

• Champion / Mentors are well informed about GM's corporate commitment to the Supplier Diversity Program
• Champion / Mentors lead the Mentoring Process
• Champion / Mentors ensure a 1-3 year business plan strategy is in place and diverse suppliers' progress to the plan is monitored
• Champion / Mentors make an on-site visit with each minority supplier at minimum once per year
• Champion / Mentors actively assist in coordinating and promoting the Business Development Plan across various corporate platforms and creativity teams in order to increase the minority suppliers' business and solicit other support
• Champion / Mentors attend various Supplier Diversity functions to show support for GM's Supplier Diversity Program and suppliers

What is the role of the mentored supplier?

• Be aligned with GM
• Maintain financial viability and a high level of performance
• Demonstrate potential for becoming one of GM's great suppliers
• Deliver value to GM
• Participate in GM's Supplier Suggestion Program
• Be an advocate / ambassador for GM
• Participate in events sponsored by GM for the Mentored Supplier
• Participate on GM's Supplier Diversity Council on a rotational basis, when applicable
• Maintain a current minority, woman-owned or SBA certificate on file with the buyer
